Walmart isn't green, they're efficient. The reason why they like less packaging -- less space used per item = more items shipped for same money. More efficient routes = less gas so spend less money for shipping. They're masters at saving pennies to make dollars...after all they didn't start importing from China to give the impoverished masses of the third world jobs but to pay for products made at $.28 / hour wages.

Receipts may be upcoming, but only if they truly save money. Any green ancillary benefits are gravy for the marketing department.

But I don't necessarily see that as a bad thing. Imagine how much pollution and waste we would all save if we simply used less instead of consuming, consuming, consuming. Our love for "disposable," "new," and "roomy" products probably does more to kill the planet than anything else.

Wal-Mart also could get rid of the "# items sold" line. Unless the company assumes its customers don't know how to count.

LOL mockup...Sam's Club is printing the receipts on both sides of the paper now, so maybe they'll roll it into Wal-Mart before too long.
